Dunne & Raby

replacing the existing normal, dunne and raby continue their design for debate and research into the future with 4 concepts

statistical clock,

The Statistical Clock checks the BBC website for technologically mediated fatalities: car, train, plane, etc, and pulls them into a database. Each technology has its own channel. The clock checks it every minute or so, and each time it finds a new one it speaks it out loud... 1, 2, 3, etc.

sexual obsessive compulsive disorder

S.O.C.D (Sexual Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is for people who enjoy porn but feel a bit guilty watching it, or think that it's wrong. You put a DVD into the black box and hold onto the rubber part of the object which is shiny and soft, a bit like a dildo. The metal bands sense your level of arousal and pixelate the image accordingly in real time. The more aroused you become, the bigger the pixel size, and the more distorted the sound gets. If you let go the film goes blank. To enjoy your video, you need to hold on but try to de-arouse yourself.

the risk watch

The Risk Watch speaks a number when you place it to your ear, the rubber nipple deflects and activates a specially built device inside. The number corresponds to the political stability of the country you are in at that time.

alignment

A small pressure gauge indicates that it is operational. It could go off at any moment. When the planets are in the appropriate configuration, the airbag is filled. An explosion of pinkness. It takes seconds, like an airbag in a car crash. Voluminous. Fantastic. A triclinic crystal: a form without 90 degree angles. Perhaps no one sees it, only the aftermath. A landscape of shocking florescent pink rip-stop fabric in sharp fractal forms, strewn across the living room floor. When the owner returns home, they decide what it means and what to do. It's a sign. It could be about love, money, or career.

Coffee, London

On a recent trip to london i had the pleasure of a coffee tour of east london with Rob Dunne, (the floating barista), experienced the wonders of Penny University where filter or syphon rules all and you can truly experience the quality of the coffee.
great coffee, wonderfully simple interiors and the most beautiful equipment youll ever see.
Prufrock is the brainchild of Gwilym Davies who is one of the reigning world barista champions. The coffee bar serving Square Mile coffee, is one of the best suppliers of coffee and equipment. The store is all about the coffee, the clothes and its quality. The store doesn’t have seats as it isn’t a cafĂ© but you can sit on the bench outside the shop if you’re looking to relax.

Tafelstukken

a series of beautifully crafted products by Daphna Laurens, recent winners at DMY Berlin.

'Awarding Daphna Isaacs & Laurens Manders, Hella Jongerius as a representative of the jury, pointed out that Berlin stands out in terms of research, experimenting and prototyping but it is also important to acknowledge the finishing of products and that is why the jury chose this accomplishment of a very tactile and nicely functioning product.'

Yi-Ting Cheng

Just discovered the work of this Taiwanese design student studying in the RCA and I love it! I love it ALL!

Just look at this elegant little trestle table...

But wait! Look at this elegant little video:

Secret Stash from yiting cheng on Vimeo.

Not only this but she has created what might be called a muttle....I don't know....here it is:

Flat Table

Japanese firm, Schemata Architecture Office have taken an antique table and poured a pink epoxy resin over the top. Shallow areas of the original table are transparent due to the reduced thickness of the epoxy. An interesting mix of old and new materials.

These guys have some other lovely work on their not-so-lovely site, such as this little house: 63.02 House (methinks Jordan will likey!)
